Welcome to the 2023 - 2024 School Year
Welcome to 4th grade! Of all the grades I've taught, I believe this is the best grade to teach as I love to engage my students in all types of interactive learning activities. We'll explore the early pioneers of Nebraska, look in-depth at the type of environments there are around world, explore the world of electricity and develop a deeper understanding of math and why things happen in math they way that they do. We'll also write stories about our lives that have us looking at some of the most exciting and even some of the saddest events of our life. So, put on your thinking cap and be ready to learn. This will be a ride of life experiences that you'll truly enjoy.
This year will be exciting, but also filled the challenges and high expectations so that you can reach your highest potential of learning possible. My job is to challenge and support you in your work, but rest assured, I'll never give you something you wont' be able to do! I'll make you think, wonder and imagine possibilities of learning you've never thought of before. Ready?? Then let's get started!
This year we’ll experience tons of new learning.
MATH: We’ll expand our knowledge of using multiplication and division along with Geometry, line plots and some algebra
NE HISTORY: While learning about the great state of Nebraska and its history,
we’ll create presentations of what we’ve read and have a lot of hands-on experiences. We also have many guest speakers as well.
SCIENCE: We’ll explore the use of energy, look at how organisms live in different environments and create various landforms.
READING: Will have us exploring various kinds of genres to read and projects to extend our learning. We'll look at
text features and text structures along with skills such as Author's Purpose, Cause/Effect, Sequence of Events, Theme and Central Idea
WRITING: We’ll work on Text Dependent Analysis (TDA’s) papers, personal narratives, poetry and my favorite – writing a persuasive essay.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO
BEGIN THE YEAR
WATER BOTTLES
Kids can bring a water bottle, but it needs to have a “flip lid” to avoid spilling of water. Only water is to be in the water bottle. I’d prefer no hydro-flask bottles as they make a terrible loud sound when they drop on the floor. Please no water bottles with a screw top lid. Water bottles are to be taken home nightly and not left in the classroom or locker. SNACKS I will provide healthy snacks for the year - DO NOT send any snacks from home. Snacks will be individually wrapped. If you’d like to contribute towards the cost of snacks, or donate some snacks, please email me to let me know ([email protected]). Options I’ll have for kiddos would be Fruit Snacks, Goldfish, Rice Krispy Bars, Pretzels, Cheez-Its, Granola Bar, etc. **If your kiddo has any food allergies I should be aware of, please email me to let me know. |
